From waste to little moments of green.

MATT Bloom Story

At MATT, we believe good design doesn’t just look good — it does good.

Each MATT Bloom planter is crafted from those leftover pieces and reshaped into clean, modular forms that hold soil and water but also potential. Whether resting on a windowsill, a desk, or beside one of our wall panels, each planter becomes a small carbon sink and a quiet invitation to reconnect with nature.

MATT Bloom started as a small idea with a big heart: what if we could turn the offcuts from our concrete wall panels into something beautiful — something that grows?

Hello from Maddie

Hi, I’m Maddie Shen — a grad student in Wood Science at UBC and part of the team here at MATT. I started MATT Bloom as a way to turn what would have been concrete waste into something meaningful and alive.

I hope MATT Bloom inspires you to nurture something:

  • A seed toward a low-carbon future.

  • A moment of calm.

  • Or simply, a deeper connection with Mother Nature.

Because every bloom counts.

Build it. Grow it. Make it yours.

You can order MATT Bloom as a fully assembled planter or choose our DIY kit for a fun and easy hands-on experience. Just follow the illustrated steps below:

1. LINE IT UP

Place the side panels face down against a wall or straight edge

2. TAPE IT TIGHT

Stick tape across the aligned panels

3. GLUE THE EDGES

Apply a generous amount of glue to the chamfered side edges

4. FOLD & HOLD

Fold into shape and press together

5. BOTTOM IN

Fold into shape and press together

6. LET IT DRY

Allow the glue to set for at least 3 hours. Full curing may take 12 to 24 hours.

Pro Tips (optional):

•  Use a small clamp to apply pressure and keep panels aligned during drying.

•  A brad nail gun (23 gauge) can be used to secure the edges and add stability.

•  Leave any squeezed-out glue on the inside edges — it helps seal the joints and improves water resistance.
